چکیده

We draw attention to the fact that the popular but unproven hypothesis of shock-driven sonoluminescence is incompatible with the reported synchronicity of the single bubble sonoluminescence (SBSL) phenomenon. Moreover, it is not a necessary requirement, since we show that the sub-shock dynamic heating in gas bubble cavitation can lead to conditions required to generate intense 100ps light pulses. To wit we study the dynamics of the interior of a cavitating gas bubble subject to conditions suitable for sonoluminescence. We explore quantitatively the transfer of energy from the sound wave to the bubble interior, the frequency of atomic collisions in the bubble, the limits of quasi-stability of the non-linear bubble oscillations driven by an acoustical field, and obtain the implied reaction time scales. Computed Spectral and Temporal Emissions from a Sonoluminescing Bubble

A sonoluminescing bubble has been modeled as a thermally conducting, partially ionized, two-component radiating plasma. The recent measurements of 100~s pulse widths by Gompf et al. are useful for constructing a consistent plasma thermal conduction model that refines our previous model. Normal thermal conduction in the gas and liquid, vapor pressure, and temperature-dependent surface tension ar...

Inert gas accumulation in sonoluminescing bubbles

In this paper we elaborate on the idea @Lohse et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 78, 1359–1362 ~1997!# that ~single! sonoluminescing air bubbles rectify argon. The reason for the rectification is that nitrogen and oxygen dissociate and their reaction products dissolve in water. We give further experimental and theoretical evidence and extend the theory to other gas mixtures. We show that in the absence o...

Water vapor diffusion effects on gas dynamics in a sonoluminescing bubble.

Calculations based on a consideration of gas diffusion of gas dynamics in a sonoluminescing bubble filled with a noble gas and water vapor are carried out. Xenon-, argon-, and helium-filled bubbles are studied. In the absence of shock waves, bubble temperatures are found to be decreased, a decrease attributable to the large heat capacity of water vapor. Peak bubble temperature reductions are se...
